Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) was born in Zanzibar on 5 September 1946. He grew up there and in India until his mid-teens. Later on he moved to England. During his career as a British musician, he was best known as the lead vocalist and a songwriter of the rock band Queen. As a songwriter, Mercury composed many hits for Queen, including "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Somebody to Love", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "We Are the Champions". He died of AIDS complications on 24 November 1991. In 2005, a poll organized by Blender and MTV2 saw Mercury voted the greatest male singer of all time.
